Short Biography

Lisa Chen, LMFT, is a second-generation Taiwanese American therapist and the founder of Lisa Chen & Associates Therapy, a boutique psychotherapy practice serving Hermosa Beach, the South Bay, and clients throughout California via telehealth. With a background that includes training at Harvard Business School and experience in high-pressure professional environments, she brings both cultural sensitivity and a nuanced understanding of the pressures faced by professionals, high achievers, couples, and families. Lisa is committed to creating a practice where clients receive thoughtful, high-quality care that honors both identity and emotional depth.

Therapy Philosophy

We believe therapy should go beyond symptom management and create meaningful, lasting change. Our approach combines insight-oriented work with practical tools, helping clients understand the deeper patterns that shape their emotions, relationships, and behaviors while building healthier ways of coping and connecting. We aim to create a space that feels both emotionally safe and intellectually engaging, where growth is thoughtful, collaborative, and transformative.

Special Training & Certifications

Our practice integrates evidence-based and depth-oriented approaches tailored to each client’s needs. Special training areas include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Intimacy From the Inside Out (IFIO) for couples, psychodynamic therapy, and the Gottman Method. We frequently work with trauma, anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, attachment wounds, and relationship distress, especially among high-functioning individuals and couples seeking deeper, lasting change.
