Short Biography
I have been working in mental health and social services since 2000, across a range of settings in Northern and Southern California — from residential and community-based programs to psychotherapy, Wraparound services, and violence prevention work. Much of my career has been devoted to supporting youth and families navigating trauma, including specialized work addressing gang involvement, sexual exploitation, immigration trauma, and the ongoing impacts of oppression, racism, and acculturation. As a bilingual, first-generation Salvadoran American clinician, I bring both professional training and lived cultural context to my work. I practice primarily from a social justice, relational, and psychodynamic framework — approaches that center relationship, depth of exploration, and the broader systems that shape our lives and mental health. Alongside my clinical work, I am involved in teaching and training in the field.
Therapy Philosophy
I believe that healing happens in relationship. My approach is rooted in the therapeutic space itself — the safety, honesty, and attunement that develops between therapist and client — not just as the foundation for the work, but often as the work itself. I am drawn to depth-oriented exploration, which means I am interested in understanding what lives beneath the surface — the patterns, early experiences, and ways of moving through the world that shape how we feel and relate. I work at a pace that honors the complexity of each person's inner life. That said, I adapt to the needs of each client, and can incorporate skill-building and other practical approaches when that is what the work calls for. I also believe that the individual experience cannot be separated from context. Culture, family, immigration history, systemic oppression — these are not peripheral to mental health, they are central to it. I strive towards creating space where clients feel understood without having to over-explain themselves due to their cultural experiences and identities. I offer services in both English and Spanish.
